Synchrony Bank Amazon Credit Builder Scam

Synchrony Bank Amazon Credit Builder Scam

I received emails that appear to have been sent by Synchrony Bank with the following subjects: "A trial deposit had been made to my AMAZON CREDIT BUILDER ACCOUNT" and "Action is required on my application". Since I had never heard of Amazon Credit Builder, I called Synchrony Bank via a phone number I found on their website and verified in an email I know was legitimate from them.

The Synchrony Amazon Credit Builder Email

Synchrony Bank Amazon Credit Builder - A trial deposit had been made to my AMAZON CREDIT BUILDER ACCOUNT

This is what Synchrony has to say:

“We are aware of an unplanned customer notification that is affecting some consumers & are investigating the issue. We apologize for any confusion & concerns this may have caused. You do not need to take any further action at this time,” Synchrony said in a Twitter message to customers."

And this is what Amazon has released:

“Amazon is aware of a notification that was distributed by Synchrony in error to some customers. They are investigating the root cause. Additional inquiries can be sent to Synchrony.”

Synchrony Bank and Amazon have assured customers that while the email was not supposed to be sent, it did come from the bank and was not a phishing attempt or a hack or a scam, as some believed.
