022 Scam Calls from a Mumbai Area Code

I got several different scam calls from different telephone numbers with a 022 area code showing up as an unknown location. The callers, with an Indian accent, claim they are offering me a promotion and said I should provide them with a one-time passcode. When I confirmed that I was not with the company they claim they are calling from, they hung up.

After receiving a few calls, I did some research on the 022 area code and found out it assigned to Mumbai, Indian. Digging deeper ,I found out the 022 calls is a sophisticated scam being carried out through fraudulent phone calls and text messages seeking personal and financial information from potential victims.

If you receive calls or text messages from telephone numbers originating from an 022 area code requesting personal and financial information, hang up and report the calls or texts to your telephone service provider. And, do not provide the callers with your sensitive information.
