The fraudulent e-mails are phishing scams that are being sent by lottery scammers or cybercriminals to trick their potential victims into sending them their personal information and subsequently sending money, by claiming that they have won thousands of dollars in a so-called lottery or promotion. This scam is similar to other lottery scams, where the lottery scammers ask their potential victims to send them money, which they will claim is for taxes, processing fees or some other fees, before they can receive their lottery winnings or prizes.
