How the Scam Works

  • False Alarms: Scammers claim an illegal parcel, drug shipment, or tax fraud is linked to your name.
  • Fake Authority: They use video apps like Skype or WhatsApp, often sitting in rooms made to look like real police stations or courts.
  • Intimidation: They order you to stay online 24/7, isolate you from family, and threaten you with real jail time if you disconnect.
  • Extortion: They demand a large "security deposit" or fine to clear your name and end the arrest.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Hang Up: Real police or government workers never use Skype or WhatsApp video to arrest people.
  • Know the Law: "Digital arrest" is entirely fake and does not exist in legal systems.
  • Never Pay: Do not send money, crypto, or bank details to anyone threatening you over a call.
  • Report It: Report the scam to your local police or cyber fraud authorities immediately.
